A Letter to Booklovers

Dear Booklover,

Anyone who has held a hand-bound leather book knows that it is one of the most beautiful things in the world. However, many people believe that only the great works of literature are suitable for fine binding. Nothing can be farther from the truth! A book may be important to you because of its contents, or because of a sentimental attachment. For example, you might have a copy of Peter Rabbit, which your grandmother gave you when you were a child. Now, you want to give it to your own grandchild, but the original binding is loose and frayed from years of use.

Our goal is to rejuvenate your special book, to make it even more special by putting it in a unique binding that is designed according to your wishes. We specialize in fine leather bindings. All of our leather - calf or Morocco - is imported from Europe and is available in many colors. Both the leather an the hand-marbled end papers we use are acid-free. Our tooling is done in 24-karat gold.

We have a priceles collection of over 2000 antique engraved decorative bookbinding tools which, depending on the style and combination used, create effects ranging from quiet highlighting to pure opulence. We create original contemporary designs, as well as retrospective designs in styles reminiscent of any period or country . . . including Renaissance Italy, Baroque France, Victorian England, or Art Déco America.

If you would like to use your family crest or company logo, we can custom make a tool or die for you. Even a favorite character like Winnie-the-Pooh can be faithfully reproduced to adorn a cover or spine. For a truly exquisite binding, we can adorn your binding with onlays and inlays of vari-colored leather, wood veneers, mother-of-pearl, or precious and semi-precious stones.

You should also know that we make leather-bound folding boxes to protect your books, to display important documents, and to preserve your pictures or videotapes. And, we make the world's finest albums for weddings, confirmations and bar/bat mitzvahs, retirements, and almost any other important occasion in your life. Please feel free to write, e-mail, fax, or phone us about binding your favorite volume of poetry, your family bible, your wedding album, or your Dickens first edition. If you are in the neighborhood, we invite you to come in, tour the bindery, and browse in our bookshop.

Sincerely,

 Herb Weitz
